Court Safety

  1. Wear proper footwear – Use non-marking court shoes with good grip to prevent slips or falls.

  2. Warm up before playing – Light stretching and short rallies help prevent injuries.

  3. Stay aware of your surroundings – Watch for balls and players on nearby courts.

  4. Call “Ball!” loudly – If a stray ball enters your court, stop play immediately to avoid tripping hazards.

  5. Avoid backpedaling – Turn and move safely toward the ball instead of stepping backward.

  6. Hydrate often – Bring water and take breaks, especially in hot weather.

  7. Use sunscreen and hats outdoors – Protect yourself from sun exposure during summer play.

  8. Wear glasses – Protective eye-ware is strongly recommended.

  9. Check the court surface – Look for wet spots, cracks, or loose debris before playing.

  10. Know your limits – Stop playing if you feel pain, dizziness, or fatigue.

Court Etiquette

  1. Be courteous and respectful – Greet your opponents and partners before and after each game.

  2. Wait for your turn – Don’t walk behind or onto another court while a rally is in play.

  3. Make honest line calls – If you’re unsure, give your opponent the benefit of the doubt. If you don't know...it's in!

  4. Retrieve balls politely – If a ball rolls onto your court, stop play and return it safely.

  5. Play the ball to all – If a stronger player is on the court with you, hit to them and often – it will make you a better player. If you are playing with weaker players, work on shots that they can return and learn from.

  6. Rotate fairly – During open play, step off the court after each game so everyone gets a chance to play.

  7. Keep composed – Keep language and behaviour positive.

  8. Keep the game moving – Be ready to serve and receive promptly to keep play flowing.

  9. Help - Help set up and tidy up – Pitch in by putting away nets, balls, and gear after play.

  10. Encourage others – Support new players and help make the game welcoming for everyone.
